The daughter of Sarah Palin has given birth to a son

The daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has given birth to a son, a magazine reported Monday.

Bristol Palin, 18, gave birth to Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston on Saturday, Dec. 28/08. He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces. Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother, told that "the baby is fine and Bristol is doing well." The governor's office said it would not release information because it considers the baby's birth a private, family matter. Palin family members, hospital employees and spokespeople either would not confirm the birth or did not return messages. The father is Levi Johnston, a former hockey player at Alaska's Wasilla High School.

President Bush is the most unpopular president

President Bush is the most unpopular president in modern polling history. But history's verdict on the beleaguered chief executive — that's still up for grabs. To that end, two of the president's staunchest defenders appeared on talk shows Sunday (Dec, 28/08) to engage in some last-minute spin. Pointing to what she deemed accomplishments in foreign aid and the Middle East, Condoleezza Rice said, "I think generations pretty soon are going to start to thank this president for what he's done." Meanwhile, Laura Bush cited the toppling of Saddam Hussein and the overthrow of the Taliban. Both women dismissed the notion that Bush's presidency has been one of the worst in history. "I know it's not, and so I don't really feel like I need to respond to people that view it that way," said Mrs. Bush.

Bad singers, good songs...

Kanye broke the cardinal rule of bad singing. He stepped outside of his preapproved vocal zone.
No one expects Kanye to sing. In fact, no one wants Kanye to sing, because we know he can't. Write an insanely catchy melody? Continue to be the biggest ego on the planet? These are the things we want from our Kanye. But when he begins to think he can pull off a ballad by actually singing it? That's when he's gone too far.

There are two kinds of bad singers in the world. The ones who kid themselves into thinking they're goodand the ones who try too hard, all the time. These are the Mariahs, Beyonces, and Christinas, although Ms. Aguilera is learning; her Nina Simone tribute on the Grammy nomination show this month was remarkably restrained. They wring the last bit of life out of every note. Just because you can sing every octave perceptible to the human ear doesn't mean you have to. These singers don't know when to hold back...
Other legendary bad singers: I'll avoid say - Yoko Ono and Michael Bolton. She inspired the B-52s. And Bolton has received his punishment for butchering so many songs by being relegated to "Where are they now?" Time has passed him by.
These peoples are ones who won't go away. And won't learn to sing.

Harold Pinter Died at 78

Harold Pinter, the most influential British playwright of his generation and a longtime voice of political protest, has died after a long battle with cancer.
Pinter, whose distinctive contribution to the stage was recognized with the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24/08.
"Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of each other and pretense crumbles," the Nobel Academy said when it announced Pinter's award. "With a minimum of plot, drama emerges from the power struggle and hide-and-seek of interlocution."
The Nobel Prize gave Pinter a global platform which he seized enthusiastically to denounce U.S. President George W. Bush and then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
"The invasion of Iraq was a bandit act, an act of blatant state terrorism, demonstrating absolute contempt for the concept of international law," Pinter said in his Nobel lecture, which he recorded rather than traveling to Stockholm.

Charity: Heat’s Dwyane Wade helps

When Dwyane Wade heard the plight of a South Florida woman whose nephew accidentally burned down her home, the Miami Heat star helped the family move into a new home. Just in time for Christmas.
The keys to a her new house, along with some furnishings to make sure her family has a joyous holiday.
His Wade’s World foundation will make some payments on the home, while Smith get back on their feet.
“That’s what I try to teach my kids,” said Wade. “It’s not about what you’re going to receive—it’s what you can give to others from what you’ve received.”
Smith is very happy. “Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Oh, God, thank you so much.”
Wade’s other holiday events this year included a party for 350 children on Monday, and hosting 100 kids at Tuesday night’s Heat game against the Golden State Warriors. He donated $10,000 to each of three children’s organizations.

Three Top Sex Scandals in 2008

#3. Madonna and A-Rod claim not to have slept together while Alex Rodriguez was married, but Madonna was emotionally close enough to the Yankees slugger to be named an "other woman" in his wife's divorce proceeding. They felt the ned to meet at a New York restaurant in secret. After the divorce, they flew all over the world together.
Maybe they really do just study Kaballah...

#2. John Edwards cheats on his cancer-stricken wife, lies about it. Edwards lied to the press, ran from National Enquirer reporters and hid in a bathroom, delayed any explanation for weeks and then issued a fishy, limited admission that, yes, he did screw former campaign videographer Rielle Hunter...

#1. Gov. Eliot Spitzer and his prostitute, Ashley Dupre, are busted. (Many people enjoyed the comeuppance of Holy McSmartypants, the former Wall Street-busting state attorney general turned arrogant governor. The feds got him, for whoring.)
One of Spitzer's hookers, Ashley Youmans -her stage name Ashley Alexandra Dupre - hooker name "Kristen") had a MySpace account, had made video for Girls Gone Wild as a teenager, had a song on the internet, for sale and had made a music video...
Eliot Spitzer was ahead of the twist in calling out the rotting uselessness of American financial institutions.

The Dark Knight

Batman landed in Hong Kong but that doesn't mean "The Dark Knight" will open all over China.
The movie opened in Hong Kong theaters. But Warner Bros. decided not to release the film in mainland China — or even submit it for censors' approval — because of "prerelease conditions" and "cultural sensitivities," the studio said Tuesday.
Warner Bros. officials may have been concerned the film — particularly scenes shot in Hong Kong, where Batman nabs a gangster — would offend censors. Hong Kong is a Chinese-ruled former British colony that maintains separate political and economic systems.
Another possible sticking point is a brief appearance by Hong Kong actor-singer Edison Chen, who appeared in lurid photos with several women this year.
Bootleg copies have been available in Chinese markets for months.

Lindsey Lohan

While she shares with the universe that she'll be spending the holidays in Los Angeles with girlfriend Samantha Ronson instead of with her Long Island-based family, Lohan spills a few beans about her father and waxes poetic about the resurgence of Britney Spears.

"I'm still going through a lot right now," she says. "My father just let my family and I know, amongst others that he had another child after my little sister Aliana, or maybe he had it before Aliana?? Either way he cheated on my mother and that really sucks. Wow—do I sound like 'Debbie Downer' or what? Not trying to be."

The Mean Girls starlet then applauds Spears' comeback and note their similarities.
"Back to the real reason for this blog—I feel like Britney Spears is an amazing talent, and she has gone through a lot, (just as I have) in the public eye. Which is not necessarily a bad thing," LINDSEY writes. "It teaches young girls and boys that there are certain things in life that you should not let get in the way of your dreams and accomplishments."

What Hollywood is looking for?

If there are two things that Hollywood is constantly looking for, they are the next big thing and the latest celebrity scandal.

In 2008, tabloid staples cleaned up their acts due to court-ordered conservatorships (Britney Spears), pledges of sobriety (Lindsay Lohan), and motherhood (Nicole Richie). As a result, celebrity rags and bloggers shifted their focus to a new, younger set of headline makers: the New Brat Pack.

Death of De la Villehuchet

Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet was sitting at his desk at about 8 a.m. with both wrists slashed. A box cutter was found on the floor along with a bottle of sleeping pills on his desk. No suicide note.
De la Villehuchet was one of several money managers and investors left reeling in the wake of Madoff's alleged $50 billion Ponzi scheme.
In his 65, De la Villehuchet, was a distinguished financier: he came from a long line of aristocratic Frenchmen. He tapped his connections in the world of European high society to attract clients to his firm, Access International Advisors.
He grew increasingly subdued after the Madoff scandal broke, arousing suspicion among janitors in his Madison Avenue office tower Monday, Dec. 22 night. Then, he demanded that they be out of there by 7 p.m. Less than 13 hours later, de la Villehuchet was dead...
The swindled investors began looking for ways to recoup their losses. Funds that lost big to Madoff are also coming up against investor lawsuits.
De la Villehuchet comes from rich French lineage, referring to one of France's most powerful families. The Magon name is listed on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It is a world-famous monument that was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806.
The Frenchman's firm enlisted intermediaries with links to upper-crust Europeans to garner investors Philippe Junot, the former husband of Princess Caroline of Monaco, and Prince Michel of Yugoslavia.
De la Villehuchet was the former chairman and CEO of Credit Lyonnais Securities USA.
He lived in an affluent suburb in Westchester County with his wife.
Friends say that he was a very honorable man, he was extraordinarily generous, he was an aristocrat but not a snob - he was a real person.

Britney's come back

Britney is back, and better than ever... Even that's debatable. She has solidified a few more years in the spotlight - with her trophy haul at the VMAs, the release of her critically-acclaimed "Circus," and that addictive MTV documentary which had you sympathizing for the first time in many years.

The founder of an investment fund that lost millions with Bernard Madoff has been found dead of a possible suicide

Death in Manhattan Office

Authorities found de la Villehuchet at 7:50 a.m. with no pulse at his office of Access International Advisors, located on Madison Avenue, a couple of blocks from Rockefeller Center, New York.

The founder of an investment fund that lost millions with Bernard Madoff has been found dead of a possible suicide.

Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet's death was reported Tuesday, December 23/2008.

A French newspaper is reporting that de la Villehuchet committed suicide. It has not determined the cause of death yet.

Madoff is accused of running a $50 billion Ponzi scheme that wiped out investors around the world, with big funds like de la Villehuchet's being especially hard hit.

Unauthorized 'biography of Michael Jackson

A spokesman for Michael Jackson released a statement on Monday, Dec 22/2008, denying as a "total fabrication" a report claiming that Michael Jackson needs a lung transplant due to a rare respiratory disease.
In an interview with writer Ian Halperin in British newspaper the Sunday Express said Jackson was suffering from Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency.
Halperin also claims Jackson can barely speak, suffers from emphysema and internal bleeding, and has lost 95 % of the vision in his left eye. Halperin is working on an unauthorized biography of the singer.
"Concerning this author's allegations, we would hope in the future that legitimate media will not continue to be exploited by such an obvious attempt to promote this unauthorized 'biography,'" said the statement attributed to Tohme. "The writer's wild allegations concerning Mr. Jackson's health are a total fabrication, Mr. Jackson is in fine health and finalizing negotiations with a major entertainment company and television network for both a world tour and a series of specials and appearances..."

An aspiring mobster on "The Sopranos" & the real murder

Lillo Brancato (he played an aspiring mobster on "The Sopranos") was cleared Monday, Dec. 22/08, of second-degree murder in the shooting death of an off-duty policeman during a drunken, late-night search for drugs.
The jury convicted Brancato of a lesser charge of attempted burglary. Brancato faces a minimum of 3 years in prison. But the former actor could get credit for time served because he has been behind bars about that long.
Brancato's face was impassive at the verdict was read, his fingers pressed together. His mother was sobbing...
Prosecutors said that Brancato and Steven Armento broke into a basement apartment to steal prescription drugs. It was after a night of drinking at a strip club. Officer Daniel Enchautegui (who lived next door) came out to investigate.
Armento blasted the 28-year-old officer with his .357 Magnum, hitting him in the heart. The dying officer fired back. Armento was convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Hollywood of 2008

Former Hollywood pariahs Britney Spears, Mickey Rourke and Robert Downey Jr. managed to turn it around this (2008) year. tHE file under TV turnaround: NBC's "Saturday Night Live".
BRITNEY Spears snagged three MTV Video Music Awards, including video of the year, she looked like a million bucks while doing this. The pop star (sporting a glittering silver dress) pulled a remarkable 180-degree turn from last year's fiasco at the VMAs. It was a striking example of how far the 27-year-old girl has risen since her father, Jamie, took control of her financial and private affairs in February. Spears continues to gain career momentum and stability in her personal life.

•Mickey Rourke, the 52-year-old actor more or less peaced out from Hollywood after squandering his early potential with bad-boy behavior. But Rourke is reliving the critical acclaim of his work in films "The Pope of Greenwich Village," "Diner" and "Rumble Fish." Director Darren Aronofsky fought to cast Rourke against the concerns of financial backers. Aronofsky forged a comprise by settling on a lower budget of $6 million. Rourke is getting strong Oscar buzz. As he told: "There were some broken pieces I didn't know how to fix that made me behave a certain way. ... I wish I knew differently, because I put myself and a lot of other people through a lot of hell that I regret."

Robert Downey Jr, the charismatic actor went from cautionary tale to bankable movie star last summer for his performance in the Marvel Studios blockbuster "Iron Man," which grossed $318.3 million. He got raves for his role as an actor in blackface in "Tropic Thunder." Downey had trouble finding plum roles that exploited the depth of his talent after some personal trouble. Downey's dark path included a crippling battle with addiction that led to stints in jail and rehab. Now, Downey proved he could draw millions to the multiplex last summer as billionaire genius-superhero Tony Stark. He previously acted in smaller-scale movies, he'll do it again. Marvel has tapped him to star in "Iron Man 2" and "The Avengers" (2010 and 2011.)

"Saturday Night Live": the NBC sketch-comedy show returned to sharp political satire in 2008. The payoff was big. ."SNL" experienced a much-needed boost, finding inspiration in the presidential campaign and a savior in the Tina Fey. Fey's spot-on impression of Sarah Palin helped resurrect the show as appointment television for viewers who couldn't get enough of her winking send-up of Sarah. Don't forget Amy Poehler's brilliant Hillary Rodham Clinton or Jason Sudeikis' teeth-baring Joe Biden. Who knows if "SNL" can continue its winning streak. If the sketches are able to the laughs from an Obama administration.

Cloris Leachman: the funny actress gained a new generation of fans with her run on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." At 82, she sat in judges laps and cussed during the live television broadcast, displaying million times more personality than beauty queen Brooke Burke. Leachman declared: "I'm not leaving."

"Australia"

Baz Luhrmann 's " Australia " may be doing some middling U.S. boxoffice, earning about $39 million since it opened. The director is unrepentant as the movie nears its 1st month of release stateside.

In one of his 1st interviews, he spoke out against "Australia's" critics. He spoke against those he feels call him the " black hole of cinema." He said that he will move quickly on his next project, an adaptation of " The Great Gatsby ," which he described as a perfect parable for economic disaster.

"A lot of reviewers like 'Australia," he told during an interview at the Four Seasons Hotel. "But there are those that don't get it. A lot of the film scientists don't get it. And it's not just that that they don't get it, but they hate it and they hate me, and they think I'm the black hole of cinema. They say, 'He shouldn't have made it, and he should die.'"

Asked why he thought the reactions were so passionate, he replied: "I know what it's about."

Hollywood news

Hollywood private eye Anthony Pellicano was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison for running a wiretapping scheme that spied on the rich and famous.
U.S. District Judge ordered the 64-year-old Pellicano and two other defendants to forfeit a total of $2 million.
"I have taken full and complete responsibility for all my actions," Pellicano said.
Pellicano engaged in "reprehensible behavior" while digging up dirt for his well-heeled clients to use in legal and other disputes.
He did this eagerly, sometimes maliciously and with extreme pride.
The private eye was convicted of a combined 78 counts, including wiretapping, racketeering and wire fraud, in two separate trials earlier this year.
Pellicano wiretapped stars such as Sylvester Stallone and bribed police officers to run the names of comedians such as Garry Shandling and Kevin Nealon through law enforcement databases to gain information.
Prosecutors previously recommended in court documents that Pellicano serve nearly 16 years in prison for running a criminal enterprise and for becoming a "high-priced thief who fraudulently obtained prominence through the harm that he wantonly inflicted on others."

Behold the Holy Grail. Since the backstage concert riders was published (about 10 years ago), people have been searching for the most famous rider of them all, the one in which Van Halen famously stipulated that brown M&M's were to be banished from the band's dressing room. As seen below, the hunt is over. The Smoking Gun has finally obtained the 1982 Van Halen World Tour rider--typewritten and 53 pages long--containing the M&M prohibition. The document also stipulated that promoters provide the group with "herring in sour cream," four cases of "Schlitz Malt Liquor beer (16 ounce cans)," and a total of eight bottles of wine and liquor. And the band also needed "One (1) large tube KY Jelly." The rider's "Munchies" section was where the group made its candy-with-a-caveat request: "M & M's (WARNING: ABSOLUTELY NO BROWN ONES)."While the underlined rider entry has often been described as an example of rock excess, the outlandish demand of multimillionaires, the group has said the M&M provision was included to make sure that promoters had actually read its lengthy rider. If brown M&M's were in the backstage candy bowl, Van Halen surmised that more important aspects of a performance--lighting, staging, security, ticketing--may have been botched by an inattentive promoter. The Van Halen rider was provided to TSG by relatives of Jack Belle, a late New York businessman. Belle (he died in 1987)promoted shows featuring acts ranging from Foghat and Golden Earring to The Police and The Who. The 1982 Van Halen rider was included in dozens of show files that Belle maintained, and which his family is now considering selling (the files include riders, signed contracts, catering bills, etc.). This is the rock and roll collectibles, which span a 1973 King Crimson show at the New York State Fairgrounds and a 1985 Bruce Springsteen concert at the cavernous Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Gwen Stefani's baby

Later, Gwen Stefani's baby boy might want to change his 1st name to something that sounds different, less like a certain clear malt beverage, & lose the other 2 names. A child raised by music royalty might fully embrace a moniker that spells nothing but embarrassment for regular kids. Stefani grew up in Southern California and loves Jamaican culture, which might explain her choice of Zuma - a beach in Malibu, and Nesta - the middle name of reggae legend Bob Marley.

Celebrity babies names

he celebrity baby boom expanded this year with the arrivals of newborns belonging to stars like Gwen StefaniNicole Kidman and Jessica Alba.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcomed their little girl on a Monday, then named her for the day before. Kidman has said Sunday is the couple's favorite day of the week. Why? Because it can be both lonely and happy depending on whether you've got your family around. They found inspiration in Aussie art collector Sunday Reed, whose first name Kidman's father suggested as a possibility. The baby's second name is a tribute to Urban's grandmother, Rose.
