Thomas Nelson was born in El Centro, California. “My formative years were spent in

For the bulk of my time there, however, I studied girls, cars, having fun, and an emerging art form called rock and roll.” He was rescued from a wasted life of excessive merriment by the Vietnam War. “After that highly regrettable experience I used the G.I. Bill to earn a masters degree in psychology from Illinois State University,” Thomas continues. “For the next 27 years I taught psychology to under graduates during the day and performed with the folk pop trio the Flying DRito Brothers nights and weekends.” When he was completely paralyzed, he was in desperate need of a creative outlet, it was digital art…
Today, Thomas Nelson not starting any long-term projects. He “figures any day above ground is a good day.” In the short run, he’d like to earn enough from his art and writing to rent a place of his own and purchase an accessible cargo van to haul his art to the shows and exhibitions.

2nd Place Winner: Talieh Vafamehr (IRAN) was born in 1985 in Tehran. She studied mathematics at high school but she loved painting and continued her education in painting at Sooreh University of Tehran. She graduated from Sooreh University summer, 2009.
Even as a child, Talieh Vafamehr saw the painting as a way to express her feelings and ideas about different issues in life. “I remember that my room was like a little painting exhibition!” She said to the NeoPopRealism Journal. “Art is the best and complete way for me to reach the self knowledge, so I prefer it to any other occupations. My personal life and my society inspire me more than anything else. The life experiences have the great influence on my works, sometimes my feelings about some events reflect in my painting…” Talieh Vafamehr said that most of the NeoPopRealism canons are the special dreams of many people and the aims of most of us. But about number 4, she thinks anyone is free to believe in any ideology or philosophy. But Talieh thinks that any extremist ideology can be destructive.
“Society and politics appear in different ways in artists life. Some artists may withdraw and give up their artistic activity once they face with obstacles. But others trying to find a suitable solutions. Political strategies also affect publishing of art works, but persistence and keenness of artist help to continue produce. Dogmatic thinking can affect everything and tragic subjects or Critical themes would be seen more in artist’s artworks to challenge it. I face special events, news or opinions in my society. And as a result, these parameters have developed sad, timid, hopeful or chill characters in my paintings. When I experience some social events, positive or negative, personal or general, they fillip me unconsciously to find the new issues for painting, and it deepens my thought and makes my mind more active. Social and human interactions help Talieh to achieve new possibilities for creating her art works. This process enhances creativity. She thinks that artist can change society; “in turn, society can make groundwork for artist too. Artistic existence is a reciprocal inseparable relation between artist and society.”
To the question “what is your ideal of the perfect society?” Thaieh said: “I don’t believe in utopia but society whose culture of conversation and exchanging ideas has formed in it definitely will be an improved society, where people can live in peace and feel liberty and security. This society respects all humans regardless of their race, color or religion.”
To the question “If you would be in a power, how you would improve the world?“ Talieh Vafamehr said: “I’d try to find some direct ways to people’s hearts, so that maybe they would tend to peace and humanity. Our soul is so valuable gift, whatever it becomes stronger; more good results for us and our world will make. Sociology and psychology science help people to achieve this purpose better. Also, I use these words of Mahatma Gandhi to complete my answer - he said: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world.""
Also, Talieh said that if she can open new window to viewer’s mind through her art, she has done a significant work. Art is the enormous power.

3rd Place Winner: Francine Douaihy (USA) was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and studied art (B.S. Degree) at Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, PA and a Masters degree in art education from the University of Scranton. She has also done graduate work at Rutgers University and Penn State University. After teaching art for 33 years in the Scranton Public School system, she retired in 2004 and instantaneously began photography full time. “My inspiration in life is to live each day to the fullest
and explore the profound relationship between art and man, Also, to connect my view of the world through art and transmit that view to my fellow earthlings internationally,” she said to the NeoPopRealism Journal. “When I take a photo, in that nano second of taking the picture, I want my eye and brain to see the scene, then transmit that scene to the viewer, freezing that moment. Its miraculous, transcending and magical!”
One of goals for her photos, she said, is to show our world from a different perspective - tiny, mundane, everyday sights that maybe most people don’t even notice and then showing them as artistic images. “A crack in a New York City sidewalk or a fading, peeling poster on a NYC wall, a broken window with mud slung on its panes, a neon sign that glows the word "OPEN"- all these have huge artistic implications for me,” she said. “Art is everywhere. Art is life. It will be here long after we are gone.“
Another goal of Francine is to travel throughout the world and again transmit to people throughout the world, places they might not necessarily ever travel. She said: “I can show to people a vignette of a day in a London park (“Margot’s World“), the modern architecture of The National Gallery of Canada, the one of a kind Canadian sunset, or the simple beauty of a 1600s Moravian town in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania...“ Recently, Francine won a Gold medal in Color Magazines for Fine Art Photography Single Image Competition 2010. There were 15 gold medals awarded out of over 2000 images. Her photograph "Rainy Sunday in New York" depicts a mysterious, dark, awesome yet melancholy metropolis. It is a unmanipulated and raw shot - the background is a fuzzy, faded view of the Empire State Building in the distance.
Francine would like to spread her art around the globe, in magazines and exhibitions. Her dream is to visit and live in different countries throughout the world to study different cultures, life and architecture, and capture the daily images through her camera lens.
“In her nostalgic photography “Margot’s World,” Francine Douaihy successfully explores relationships between simple but fascinating nature of England and person - Margot, who escaped from the civilization’s urban streets,” juror Nadia Russ said.

Honorable Mention - Per Siwmark (Sweden) was born in Malmö, and studying in Malmö and Lund (Sweden). He decided to be a sculptor because he likes the feeling and to work in 3D, he said. Per’s inspirations come from the ancient history and mythology, he is influenced by art of ancient times and modern design. His goal is to show his sculpture internationally, and to keep finding new techniques for creating his artworks. Per Siwmark said: “Already now my work is unique but I want to take it even further… My biggest dream is to rebuild Pompeii at MOMA.” His next creative project is to build sculptures for the next year show in Rome. Per said to the NeoPopRealism Journal, “I will create sculptures based on the Roman epic poem “The Aeneis” by Virgil. During 2011 I will exhibit my work in Sweden, Italy, USA, Belgium and Finland.” Per Siwmark lives and works as a full time sculptor in a small town called Bjärred, 20 km north of Malmö, Sweden.

Former Bachelorette contestant Julien Hug was laid to rest in San Diego, California. The restaurateur took his own life November 3 with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was found off a remote highway in the Southern California desert that same day. Hundreds of friends and family members gathered to mourn the loss of Julien, 35, at the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe, Ca. He was depressed and struggling, and nobody knew, his grieving father Bertrand Hug told.

Julien's suicide note, addressed to his parents:
"I'm sorry to have to do this to you. I love you both tremendously. You two are the best parents. I've suffered from severe depression for years. I feel awful and don't know how to cope. If life's not enjoyable, why stick around?"

65-year-old TV/film actor and producer Michael Douglas is battling throat cancer. He says that indulging in a particular guilty pleasure is helping him cope with his disease and get through the early stages of treatment.
Douglas said cancer couldn’t have picked a better time. "America's Got Talent" is back with a new crop of misfits and future stars vying for a shot at $1 million. Season 5 kicked off with auditions in LA and in Dallas. There was a big change at the judges' comppany. David Hasselhoff was gone. Howie may have stolen the spotlight on a few occasions, telling the judge Piers Morgan to shut up on at least one occasion. But for the most part, it was the talent and the untalented that really stood out.

Who knew the new faces of dance would be so cute? 9-year-old Bailey Munoz, a.k.a. Bailrok, and his 5-year-old partner, Miles Baby Boogaloo Brown formed a dance team called Future FunK. These little guys had big plans for their future million-dollar winnings. Bailey wanted to buy a lot of toys. The duo presented their own version of the history of dance, with the robot, break, and even ballroom. They delivered Howie's first WOW! moment and GOT the first tickets to Las Vegas this season.

Art was always a big part of Blair Barbour's (1st Place Winner) childhood. Blair Barbour thinks that the most exciting thing about this profession - artist - is creating the artwork itself.
"The medium I use doesn’t allow me to see the piece until the very end for two reasons: I work backwards, starting with the most basic background details and finishing with the top layers and waiting for the acrylic medium to dry letting the art reveal itself,” she said. “I love showing my work and sharing it with the world. There is nothing better than doing what you love as your "job" and, I hope, to inspire others to chase their dreams.” Blair gets her inspiration from “every day life, exciting moments in time might be lost otherwise. I like taking those moments and spending days bringing them to the surface. The little details in life are the most valuable, so don’t miss them!” To the question what she thinks about experimenting in art, Blair Barbour said, “This is such a large question! I believe that visual arts are a form of therapy, expression of the soul, one of the greatest gifts given to every human, and, I hope, each one will utilize that talent in some way. Experimenting is what life is all about and I will continue to experiment and grow with my art, to inspire and give back. Experimenting in visual arts is my life and my duty because art has been the one truth that has pulled us through history and reveals its secrets. Without art and experimentation our world would be a dark, boring place.” Blair Barbour is from a blended family with five sisters and four parents. Her family consists of musicians, writers and artists. Blair’s mother is an exhibiting artist and teacher. Her step-mother was an artist who was always trying new things and showing to Blair how to do them. Art and music have always been around and the support of Blair Barbour’s parents has been the driving force in following her dreams.
“I am living my main dream, and on the path to accomplishing more of my dreams,” Blair said, and continues: “My main dream is to share my visual art with the world’s eyes, next - to share my writing with the world’s ears, and then - to share my future yoga studio with the world’s souls.”

Sigmund Abeles (2nd Place Winner) said: “Appear to be an artist… It is so hard to keep up appearances, isn't it? Growing up in a small town in SC without any art in the segregated schools, I poured over old Life magazines, my mom filled cabinets with, and ultimately the art articles knocked me out. Otherwise, my only professional dream was to be a jockey and then a horse trainer.” He wanted to become the Diego Rivera of the US Civil Rights Movement, political art, but his true imagery was intimist. Sigmund Abeles was raised by a single parent, his mom. All her family were small business folks. His father's side was rabbinical and professional, but he only met some of them after he was grown and moved to NYC. “My main goal is to keep on making vital, significant art about life/humanity with honesty, intensity and depth and get it seen, even sold,“ Sigmund Abeles said to the NeoPopRealism Journal. “I hope and dream to work to my last day and hope that is at least fifteen years more of image-making." Several months ago, he celebrated his 75th birthday. Sigmund’s artistic career is a success story of a notable artist whose art works can be found in top art museums in the US and Europe, including MoMA, Metropolitan and National Academy of Art, with list of the solo and group art exhibitions and many awards. In 2000, Coastal Carolina University awarded him an honorary doctorate. The same 2000, he had his major one-artist exhibition at Thomas Williams Fine Arts, London, UK. The Pastel Society of America made him their Hall of Fame Honoree for 2004, and in 2006 he was awarded their Degas Pastel Society Award.
For many years, Sigmund Abeles was teaching art and continues sharing his great talent with new generations of artists at The Art Students League of New York..

John Alcock (3rd Place Winner) was born in 1950 in a small county town of Walpeup, in a wheat growing area, in Australia, and grew up surrounded the natural environment. His interest in arts was shaped by his father’s great love to Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. After finishing his school, John went to work in environment, and was traveling a lot. In 1989, he went back to art school and did an Associate Diploma of Visual Arts at Barton institute.
He said to the NeoPopRealism Journal, “I think the gift to be given the chance to express oneself as an artist is great in the pleasure it can bring and the responsibility it carries. One is not creative, but one is born that way, with a burning desire to do so. One’s creativity should not be an expression of the ego, but an expression the very soul of the artist.”
John Alcock’s aim is to make the world a better place - at least one person, to help people to see the environment in a different way and “to have a healthy respect for our planet.” “I am often blown away by people’s creative inspiration,” he says. “We should always
strive to be the best person we can be at any given time. In the arts, we should be always attempting to extend ourselves.”
Currently, John Alcock working full time as an artists in the state of Victoria, spending some time with his teenage son.
“John Alcock’s artwork ‘Victoria Spring’ is celebration of beauty, it carries strong positive energy and inspired by Australian nature. John brings his happy fascination on his canvas, creating shapes, and using bright, high energy colors,” juror Nadia Russ said.

Claudette Losier (Honorable Mention) lives and works in Canada. Her work is a reflection of her everyday life, her traveling, her life. She said to the NeoPopRealism Journal, “I like most about being an artist is creating using line, form, values, colour either in drawing or painting and seeing before your eyes something flat pop.” Her winning artwork “Noodling My Doodling With My Neighbor” is a result of her experiments with mixed media and transfer. Claudette graduated from Brock University with a Honors BFA in Fine Arts in 1989. You can find her work in books “Exploring Niagara - The Complete Guide to Niagara Falls and Vicinity,” and in “NeoPopRealism Starz: 21st Century ART,” 1st Vol. by Nadia Russ. Simon Kavanagh was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1974. He lived in Paris, then he moved to Shanghai, later he has returned to Europe, Denmark... In College, he studied Art and Design Education. He brought his skills into commercial multimedia, and within 1 year had become Creative director. Over the next six years he learned everything about production in all areas of MM for all platforms, inc. development of high end video and animation. I have always been an artist," Simon said. "Having the time to create is the challenge. When I lived in Shanghai, I found the stimulus there so intense that it allowed me the extra energy and inspiration to bring my art to the public. There, I had 2 major shows... a collection of 5 years work, and a graffiti show where I tested out my approach to interactive and media art on a large scale. "What if the work of art becomes the interface, a dialogue of thoughts and perhaps also of common creation-cooperation and shared experience," Simon Kavanagh shares his thoughts with NeoPopRealism Journal. "I like NeoPopRealism," Simon continued. "Also, its funny how some of my ideas have revolved around revisiting Pop Art concepts and pieces again. Pop Art was a very important art movement, however, as it turned out it did as much damage as good for art. It brought art into the commercial age of mass production as well as challenging the concept of suitable subject matter. It lead to the commercialization of the art world, as I see it leading to massive inflation of art work during the 80s. It also inspired a new generation of artists to experiment and be provocative. Perhaps Pop Art is more relevant now, in the 21st century, using its topical, simple imagery to reach bigger audiences faster, like a billboard which needs to be understood immediately, as everything is for sale, a commodity, but combined with new media and technology allowing for a new level of realism, accuracy and concision."

Starting in September 2009, Simon will focus on his art by reducing his employment. This will allow him the time he needs to develop some new pieces, software, concepts, ideas. He will also use this time to think about how to start working towards his goal of designing or helping to develop a masters curriculum in digital fine art, with a radical and interactive result. He is currently working in the KaosPilots in Denmark, a 3rd level education for social/radical entrepreneurs. Currently, he would like to do a PhD around the subject in order to strengthen and deepen the pedagogy.

Travolta is a victim of extortion in the Bahamas

Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater, an attorney from Grand Bahama, was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 22/09. She was charged with abetment to extort and conspiracy to extort and released Friday, Jan. 24/09 on $40,000 bail, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police Loretta Mackey.

Travolta filed a complaint of attempted extortion but they did not reveal what the allegations involved. Travolta and his wife Kelly returned home tioto Florida with the ashes of their 16-year-old son.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Marvin Dames said that Lightbourne — the ambulance driver — was detained after police issued an alert that he was wanted for attempted extortion, was "considered dangerous and should be approached with caution."

A member of the Bahamas parliament and an ex-tourism minister — Wilchcombe was arrested Friday Jan. 24/09 in connection with the complaint, questioned by police and released "pending further investigations."

Wilchcombe said he was a friend of Travolta, and was with the actor shortly after his son died...

Akon has a birth certificate, but he says his age is still a mystery... And he'd rather keep it that way.

He said that all it's going to do is depress him. He doesn't want to know he's getting older. Then he'll start to think about getting checkups and insurance. He doesn't want that.

Numerous reports have put his age between 25 to 35 years old. In 2006, he was 25. But now, he claims his birth certificate shows he was born on April 16, 1977, which would make him 31.

Some have accused Akon of trying to push back his age. Akon was born in the United States of America but spent his early life in Senegal (his family is from there).

It's a safe bet A Schwarzenegger hasn't said hasta la vista to Hollywood yet.

While McG refused to confirm the news at a press gaggle in New York Monday to hype his upcoming Terminator Salvation, the helmer all but invited speculation that the Covernator will be back for one more go-round as the titular cyborg. At least in cameo form.

Asked by producer Dan Lin about what surprises are in store for moviegoers, McG said with a wink and a nod: "I can't talk about it. I can't talk about the governor of California."

Since winning 2003's recall election, Schwarzenegger has spent more time busting budgets than heads. His last official feature film appearance came in 2004's Around the World in 80 Days opposite Jackie Chan, and his last appearance as the T-800 in 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

Terminator Salvation stars Christian Bale as the all-grown-up John Connor, leading the human resistance against Skynet and its cyborg army.

Seeking to get media types psyched about his sequel (and assuage fan fears that his movie wouldn't live up to James Cameron's classics), McG offered a sneak peek of some key scenes in what he hopes is the launchpad for a second Terminator trilogy.

McG powwowed with the King of the World, who offfered tips on staying true to the mythology and characters Cameron created back in 1984: "He sort of nodded and said, 'Look I reserve the right to like it or not like it.'. . .I said 'fair enough. . .I want the film to speak for itself at all times.' He nodded and we shook hands." McG is set to show Cameron a rough cut in two weeks.

The newly revamped Web site of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, officially launching Tuesday - Oscars.org.

It's for almost anyone with an interest in movies, depending on the level of interest, there's something there for everybody. The site is more than an extensive homage to the Academy Awards. Visitors can learn about the academy's vast film and script archives. Both open to the public. They can discover educational programs for young filmmakers, glimpse artwork from upcoming academy exhibitions: Fellini's sketches are on view now. Visitors can there meet the people who vote on the Oscars via video.

There's also a link to YouTube page and a chance to receive automated Oscar trivia questions.

In the Bahamas an official with a funeral home (Glen Campbell is assistant director of the funeral home) says that Jett Travolta's death certificate says he was killed by a "seizure."

Glen tells that the body is in "great condition" and shows no sign of head trauma. Authorities performed an autopsy Monday, January 5th, but didn't release the results. G. Campbell said that the certificate was based on the autopsy findings, and gave no information on the cause of death beyond the word "seizure."

After a New Republic article raised their questions, publisher Berkley Books canceled his memoir. Another publisher offered refunds for "Angel Girl", inspired by Rosenblat's tale. (By the way, Berkley Books already fooled twice by other authors.)

Jihn Travolta's son, died in the Bahamas after falling ill and hitting his head. It happened in the Bahamas, at the family's vacation home. A house caretaker found Jett, 16, in a bathroom Friday morning, unconscious. He was taken by ambulance to a Freeport hospital. There he was pronounced dead. The teenager had a history of seizures. Police said they are planning an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police spokeswoman, Loretta Mackey, said that Jett hit his head on the bathtub.

Jett was the oldest child of Travolta and actress KELLY PRESTON (his wife), who also have an 8-year-old daughter. The family had been vacationing at their home in the Old Bahama Bay resort communitY.

Bristol Palin, 18, gave birth to Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston on Saturday, Dec. 28/08. He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces. Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother, told that "the baby is fine and Bristol is doing well." The governor's office said it would not release information because it considers the baby's birth a private, family matter. Palin family members, hospital employees and spokespeople either would not confirm the birth or did not return messages. The father is Levi Johnston, a former hockey player at Alaska's Wasilla High School.

No one expects Kanye to sing. In fact, no one wants Kanye to sing, because we know he can't. Write an insanely catchy melody? Continue to be the biggest ego on the planet? These are the things we want from our Kanye. But when he begins to think he can pull off a ballad by actually singing it? That's when he's gone too far.

There are two kinds of bad singers in the world. The ones who kid themselves into thinking they're goodand the ones who try too hard, all the time. These are the Mariahs, Beyonces, and Christinas, although Ms. Aguilera is learning; her Nina Simone tribute on the Grammy nomination show this month was remarkably restrained. They wring the last bit of life out of every note. Just because you can sing every octave perceptible to the human ear doesn't mean you have to. These singers don't know when to hold back...
Other legendary bad singers: I'll avoid say - Yoko Ono and Michael Bolton. She inspired the B-52s. And Bolton has received his punishment for butchering so many songs by being relegated to "Where are they now?" Time has passed him by.
These peoples are ones who won't go away. And won't learn to sing.

Harold Pinter, the most influential British playwright of his generation and a longtime voice of political protest, has died after a long battle with cancer.
Pinter, whose distinctive contribution to the stage was recognized with the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005, died on Wednesday, Dec. 24/08.
"Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of each other and pretense crumbles," the Nobel Academy said when it announced Pinter's award. "With a minimum of plot, drama emerges from the power struggle and hide-and-seek of interlocution."
The Nobel Prize gave Pinter a global platform which he seized enthusiastically to denounce U.S. President George W. Bush and then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
"The invasion of Iraq was a bandit act, an act of blatant state terrorism, demonstrating absolute contempt for the concept of international law," Pinter said in his Nobel lecture, which he recorded rather than traveling to Stockholm.

Batman landed in Hong Kong but that doesn't mean "The Dark Knight" will open all over China.
The movie opened in Hong Kong theaters. But Warner Bros. decided not to release the film in mainland China — or even submit it for censors' approval — because of "prerelease conditions" and "cultural sensitivities," the studio said Tuesday.
Warner Bros. officials may have been concerned the film — particularly scenes shot in Hong Kong, where Batman nabs a gangster — would offend censors. Hong Kong is a Chinese-ruled former British colony that maintains separate political and economic systems.
Another possible sticking point is a brief appearance by Hong Kong actor-singer Edison Chen, who appeared in lurid photos with several women this year.
Bootleg copies have been available in Chinese markets for months.

Death of De la Villehuchet

Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet was sitting at his desk at about 8 a.m. with both wrists slashed. A box cutter was found on the floor along with a bottle of sleeping pills on his desk. No suicide note.
De la Villehuchet was one of several money managers and investors left reeling in the wake of Madoff's alleged $50 billion Ponzi scheme.
In his 65, De la Villehuchet, was a distinguished financier: he came from a long line of aristocratic Frenchmen. He tapped his connections in the world of European high society to attract clients to his firm, Access International Advisors.
He grew increasingly subdued after the Madoff scandal broke, arousing suspicion among janitors in his Madison Avenue office tower Monday, Dec. 22 night. Then, he demanded that they be out of there by 7 p.m. Less than 13 hours later, de la Villehuchet was dead...
The swindled investors began looking for ways to recoup their losses. Funds that lost big to Madoff are also coming up against investor lawsuits.
De la Villehuchet comes from rich French lineage, referring to one of France's most powerful families. The Magon name is listed on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It is a world-famous monument that was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806.
The Frenchman's firm enlisted intermediaries with links to upper-crust Europeans to garner investors Philippe Junot, the former husband of Princess Caroline of Monaco, and Prince Michel of Yugoslavia.
De la Villehuchet was the former chairman and CEO of Credit Lyonnais Securities USA.
He lived in an affluent suburb in Westchester County with his wife.
Friends say that he was a very honorable man, he was extraordinarily generous, he was an aristocrat but not a snob - he was a real person.
